David Lalremruata Honored as Sportsperson of the Year at MSSC Golden Jubilee

AIZAWL, April 21, 2026 — Marking a historic milestone during its Golden Jubilee celebrations, the Mizoram State Sports Council (MSSC) awarded West Serzawl native David Lalremruata the prestigious Sportsperson of the Year Among Persons with Disabilities 2025.
The award was presented at the R. Dengthuama Indoor Stadium in Mualpui on April 20, 2026. In recognition of his exceptional athletic career and contributions to the state's sporting legacy, Lalremruata was honored with a formal citation and a cash prize of ₹1,00,000.
A Year of International and National Success Lalremruata, who represents both the Mizoram Blind Sports Association (MBSA) and the Mizoram Judo Association, has had a landmark year. He garnered international attention with his participation in the 2025 IBSA World Judo Championships held in Astana, Kazakhstan, where he secured an impressive 7th place finish in the world rankings.
On the national front, he cemented his status as one of India's elite para-athletes by winning the Gold Medal in the Below 81kg (J1) category at the 13th National Para Judo Championship. His consistent excellence on both world and national stages made him the standout choice for the state's highest sporting accolade during this jubilee year.

The R. Dengthuama Indoor Stadium hosted government officials, sports administrators, and athletes from across the state to witness the annual MSSC awards. The ceremony was particularly significant as it coincided with
the Council's 50th-anniversary celebrations, highlighting five decades of sporting development in Mizoram.

The recognition of Lalremruata’s achievements underscores the state's commitment to inclusive sports and the continued success of the MBSA in nurturing world-class talent among visually impaired athletes.
